Three Elected Associate Members of the American Society of Golf Course Architects

BROOKFIELD, Wis. – The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) welcomed Cynthia Dye McGarey, Richard Mandell and Kevin Norby as new Associate Members to its ranks at the group’s recent 66th Annual Meeting in Chattanooga, Tenn. The elections include them among the more than 175 ASGCA members who practice around the world.

McGarey is principal designer with Dye Designs Group in Englewood, Colo., with an office in Shenzhen, China. Her list of representative courses includes CTS Tycoon Golf Club, Shenzhen, China; Cypress Country Club, Jeju Island, South Korea; White Horse Golf Club, Kingston, Wash.; Evandale Country Club, MiWonmyum, South Korea; and Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort – Wolf Course, Las Vegas.

Mandell is president of Richard Mandell Golf Architecture in Southern Pines, N.C. His golf courses include The Easton Club, Easton, Md.; Creekside Golf & Country Club, Hiram, Ga.; Skydoor Golf Club, Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, China; Army Navy Country Club, Arlington and Fairfax, Va. (remodel); The Water’s Edge Country Club, Smith Mountain Lake, Va. (remodel); and Raleigh Country Club, Raleigh, N.C. (restoration).

Norby is an owner of Herfort Norby Golf Course Architects in Chaska, Minn. His courses include The Preserve on Rathbun Lake, Moravia, Iowa; Boulder Pointe Golf Club, Elko, Minn.; The Refuge Golf Club, Oak Grove, Minn.; Pleasant View Golf Course, Middleton, Wis. (11-hole addition); and Greystone Golf Club, Sauk Center, Minn.

Candidates for Associate Membership in ASGCA complete a rigorous, multi-phase application process that includes peer review of four completed courses, discussions with project owners and a personal interview to assess the candidate’s professional capabilities. This process typically takes two years for an applicant to complete.

Founded in 1946 by 14 leading architects, the American Society of Golf Course Architects is a non-profit organization comprised of experienced golf course designers located throughout the United States and Canada.
