Pete Dye Layouts No. 2, No. 10 ‘Best You Can Play’ in S.C.
(HILTON HEAD, S.C.) — The Sea Pines Resort announces Harbour Town Golf Links is ranked No. 2 and Heron Point by Pete Dye No. 10 in Golfweek’s 2012 list of “Best Courses You Can Play” in South Carolina.
These accolades follow Golfweek’s national ranking of iconic Harbour Town – site of the upcoming PGA TOUR RBC Heritage (April 12 – 15) – as No. 41 in its “Best Modern” courses. A recent Golf World survey of TOUR players named Harbour Town as No. 2 in their “Top 10 PGA TOUR Courses,” placing the Pete Dye masterpiece just behind Augusta National.
This marks the debut of Heron Point by Pete Dye on the coveted list – giving the Lowcountry destination two of the top 10 layouts in the golf-rich Palmetto State. The 7,103-yard tapestry of short and long holes is woven amid newly-created lagoons and centuries-old Live Oaks. All the Dye signature elements are present – sprawling waste bunkers, railroad ties, fairway mounding and risk / reward greens – creating a classic 18.
“To have our two Pete Dye courses in the top 10 in Golfweek’s state-by-state list speaks volumes to the exceptional golf we offer,” says Cary Corbitt, Director of Sports Division of Sea Pines Resort. “Two ‘bucket list’ layouts in addition to the splendid Ocean Course gives us a trifecta of great golf that’s tough to beat.”
The Sea Pines Resort also recently received a “Gold Medal” in GOLF Magazine’s 2012-13 edition of “Premier Resorts.” Though noted for golf, its Racquet Club boasts 23 clay courts and is ranked as one of the best in the U.S. Five miles of sweeping Atlantic beaches offer great East Coast sea vistas. The enchanted 605-acre Forest Preserve is ideal for horseback riding and hiking. Its array of luxurious accommodations includes The Inn at Harbour Town — an award-winning 60-room boutique hotel – as well as 300 villas and 100 rental homes.
