Reflection Bay Golf Club Reducing Water Usage with New Conservation Efforts

Lake Las Vegas contributing to statewide efforts to conserve more water

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 27, 2023) – Reflection Bay Golf Club, one of the most water conscious courses in Southern Nevada, is taking its efforts a step further by implementing water saving initiatives that will save more than 31 million gallons of water per year. Reflection Bay will close for its new renovations May 1st and reopen later this summer.

“This renovation has taken a lot of preparation and planning, not only with finding efficient ways to conserve water, but also making sure the course provides our members and visiting golfers with a superior golfing experience unlike any other course in the state,” said Eric Dutt, Manager of Operations and longtime Southern Nevada golf expert.

Dutt said water conservation has always been top-of-mind for Reflection Bay. “We have used bermuda grass for both fairways and roughs since the course opened in 1998,” he said. “Bermuda fairways and roughs are some of the most efficient turf types from a water conservation standpoint.”

Reflection Bay’s commitment to water savings has also saved 31 million gallons a year over the past three years it has not overseeded the course. “We have stopped overseeding fairways and roughs for the past three years which provides a tremendous reduction in water usage and will continue to do so moving forward in an effort to save water,” said Dutt.

During the renovation, Reflection Bay will replace approximately 4.5 acres of Bentgrass greens to paspalum grass on the putting greens. “Bentgrass is a grass that often struggles in extremely hot, humid and/or arid conditions,” said Dutt. “Paspalum is the ideal choice for our redesign because it is salt tolerant, heat and humidity resistant, and doesn’t show ball marks. Equally important it thrives using grey water.”

Dutt said Reflection Bay is also saving an additional 2.934 million gallons per year of water since it’s renovation in 2013 on it’s reduced practice range turf foot print. “We look forward to not only offering our members and guests a refreshed and renovated golfing experience, but a course that has gone above and beyond to save water in our community.”
