LANCASTER, Pa. – As a result of the overwhelming success of the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open, Lancaster County and Lancaster Country Club, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, are proud to announce a bid to bring the most prestigious event in women’s international team golf, the Solheim Cup, to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The announcement was made today at a news conference with Lt. Governor Mike Stack, Lancaster Country Club (LCC) leadership and community organizations overlooking LCC’s highly acclaimed Flynn Course. The exciting announcement also included the launch of www.bidtowin2021.com, a website offering free pre-registration for members of the public who wish to be among the first to register as a volunteer, attendee or potential sponsor for the 2021 Solheim Cup in Lancaster.

“Pre-registration through the bid website is the best way for the public and sponsors to ensure that they will be the very first to be presented with future opportunities, if LCC is awarded the honor of hosting the 2021 Solheim Cup,” said Jerry Hostetter, chairman of LCC’s 2021 Solheim Cup Bid Committee. “It’s the one way for the public to become an insider for this truly international event.”

The Solheim Cup is a world-class event that brings together two teams of the finest professional female golfers representing the United States and Europe. If Lancaster wins the bid for the 2021 Solheim Cup, it would be the first time the event has ever been hosted in Pennsylvania and the first LPGA Tour event to be hosted at Lancaster Country Club.

“The opportunity to competitively win and stage an international event like the 2021 Solheim Cup, coming off the obvious momentum of the success of the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open, reflects our Commonwealth’s continual aim to foster our communities to succeed in the global marketplace,” said Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, Mike Stack. “Nothing more effectively demonstrates the vibrancy of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Lancaster County to the entire world than having the opportunity to partner with a growing and revered international sporting event like the Solheim Cup.”

The 2015 U.S. Women’s Open, conducted by the USGA, introduced the Lancaster Country Club and Lancaster County to a worldwide audience in July of 2015, while setting the highest attendance (in excess of 135,000) in the history of the event. The success of the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open was due in large measure to the engagement of many local, Lancaster County businesses and the incredible support of the thousands of volunteers and residents.

“The historic success of the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open proves that Lancaster is ready for an international event of this scale,” said Rory Connaughton, vice chairman of LCC’s Bid Committee for the 2021 Solheim Cup. “With the community’s help, we’re ready to make history again.”
