Sagewood’s Second Annual Golf Tournament Raises $13,000 for Employee Scholarships

PHOENIX (April 16, 2024) – Sagewood, a life plan community in North Phoenix, recently raised $13,000 during its second annual golf tournament hosted by the Sagewood Residents’ Foundation.
The Sagewood Residents’ Foundation started in 2013 to grant higher education scholarships to people who work in the Sagewood community or their dependents. Since the start of the foundation, Sagewood residents have raised over $1.5 million and awarded more than 425 scholarships. Community staff members and their dependents use the scholarships to pursue a 4-year degree, community college programs or trade programs.
Resident giving is year-round but the golf tournament on April 11 was a fun way for residents to get outdoors, bond with one another, increase physical activity and bring out their competitive edge, all while supporting a great cause.
More than 100 residents and their guests played in the tournament, hosted at Sagewood’s onsite 18-hole putting course. The event featured a morning round of golf, a chef-curated lunch themed after the Master’s tournament, an afternoon round of golf, and a happy-hour gathering to announce the winners and award prizes.
Donations for the golf tournament were $50 for the morning or afternoon tournaments and larger donations were contributed by sponsors. The total amount raised for the event was $13,000, which exceeded last year’s total of $10,000.
“We are so pleased with the support of the golf tournament and so proud of how much we were able to raise in just one day,” says Dr. Marlene Ross, immediate past president of the Sagewood Residents’ Foundation. “Not only was it a fun event, but the generosity of Sagewood residents will support so many individuals in furthering their education.”
The Foundation will continue to fund scholarship applicants for many years to come and it has also started an endowment to ensure longevity of the program. For the residents at Sagewood, it is essential to give back to the community and the staff members that do so much for them.
By granting these scholarships, staff members and their dependents have been able to complete their higher education programs and go on to achieve higher-paying jobs within the Sagewood community or the greater Phoenix community.
The goal of the program is to continue growing, award more scholarships in the future and get more residents involved in supporting the future generations. When the Foundation started, it awarded 15 scholarships and this academic year, it awarded 44 scholarships.
“It is an honor to financially support so many individuals in their educational career,” adds Dr. Ross. “The Sagewood Residents’ Foundation has grown so much in the last 10 years, and we are confident it will only continue to grow and serve more people.”
