COVINGTON, Ga. – (May 14, 2023) – Bridgestone Golf staff player Jason Day captured his 13th PGA Tour victory on Sunday at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Day’s confidence in his Bridgestone TOUR B X golf ball led to a final round 62 and 23-under-par total that was marked by signature big drives, pinpoint iron play, and rock-solid putting.
“Innovation is the hallmark of Bridgestone Golf,” said Elliot Mellow, Bridgestone Marketing Manager. “Jason was in a position to play any ball he wanted when he signed with Bridgestone last year. He was looking for the best performance he could get, and after seeing what Tiger was doing with our golf ball, he decided to test it. As is the case with a lot of top players who test our TOUR B golf ball, he made the switch almost immediately.”
Day originally tested and played with Bridgestone’s TOUR B XS, which was designed with help from Tiger Woods and also played on Tour by the 15-time Major winner. While playing the XS, Day continued to work with Bridgestone ball fitters and eventually switched to the TOUR B X, based on slightly lower spin rates and longer driver distance.
“I was impressed with how much spin Tiger was getting around the green and I wanted to play the same ball,” commented Day. “I loved the performance the XS gave me around the green, but after extensive testing with Bridgestone fitters we found the TOUR B X was a better all-around fit for my game. After experimenting with both models, I could see they were right and switched to the X – obviously the results speak for themselves.”
Day’s magnificent final round of nine-under-par 62, featured 9 birdies, no bogeys, and a whole lot of power and distance off the tee. After making four birdies on the front nine he proceeded to chip in on the 12th hole and went on to play an immaculate final six holes with four more birdies including one on the 72nd hole. His second win at the Byron Nelson and his first win on Tour since 2018 adds to his impressive haul of 13 career PGA Tour victories, which also include the PGA Championship, The Players Championship, The Arnold Palmer Championship, The Farmers Championship twice, The RBC Canadian Open, The Barclays, and others.
“This is obviously a huge win for Jason and we congratulate him,” said Dan Murphy, Bridgestone Golf President and CEO. “It reminds me of when Tiger won the ’18 Tour Championship after four years without a win. Jason wanted to play the same ball as Tiger in part so he could get the same results, and with this huge win, he got exactly that. We’re excited about Jason’s game right now and know he’s got his eye on bigger things.”
The 3-piece TOUR B X golf ball used by the Australian native features Bridgestone’s game-changing REACTIV iQ cover technology, which allows for maximum speed and distance on long shots and superior spin and control and short shots.
