Boasting one of the strongest adaptive golf programs in the nation, Angel City Sports and its elite team of coaches have been transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals with disabilities through monthly clinics at Westchester Golf Course along with various annual outreach events. This pivotal inaugural tournament will provide a competitive environment for more established players. For the tournament, teams of four will play nine holes at the beautiful Westchester Golf Course; teams will begin in a staggered start and will consist of two para-golfers and two supporters without disabilities.
In addition, Paralympians Mike Spivey, Ezra Frech, Nick Mayhugh, and Isaac Jean-Paul will be participating in the event. Proceeds from the tournament will directly benefit ACS’ Adaptive Golf Program and help purchase additional equipment, support a traveling team, and further develop its network of adaptive golf instructors.
“During the pandemic, with most gyms and facilities closed down, golf was one of the only sports we were able to offer, and it has skyrocketed in popularity over the last couple of years,” said Clayton Frech, CEO and Founder of Angel City Sports. “This event will showcase over 20 adaptive golfers, some elite and others who play recreationally, with a variety of different abilities. By bringing this amazing community together, we hope to inspire others living with physical disabilities to join our program.”
Founded in 2013, Angel City Sports has offered golf programming since 2016. Athletes of all ages and physical disabilities are welcome to join monthly clinics, held on the first Thursday of each month from 10:30-12:00pm at Westchester Golf Course. Angel City Sports provides all of the coaches and necessary equipment for aspiring adaptive golfers, including two para-golf carts funded by a grant from The Hartford’s Ability Equipped program. These special carts are for golfers with a spinal cord injury, allowing them to stroke the ball from a standing position. Between our clinics, community outreach events, and golf clinics offered at our multisport events, we offer over 20 days of golf programming per year.
