(Girona, Spain – 11 February 2022) – PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness recorded €69.3m of real estate sales, noted an influx of visitors from Europe and celebrated a top 20 golf resorts world ranking during a challenging 2021.

After a worldwide lull in 2020, PGA Catalunya recovered in all segments in 2021 and in the latter part of the year eclipsed 2019 figures, with both golf courses and its onsite Hotel Camiral performing way above October and November forecasts.

Seventy units of the resort’s low-density real estate development were sold in 2021, totalling just shy of €70m – surpassing projections and ranking as one of the best years on record – while Hotel Camiral saw business recover from July, with October and November figures exceeding those of 2019 and the 2021 forecast by 14%.

Customers from France and Spain made up the majority of guests in 2021, with visitors from Switzerland and Germany seeing a growth in prior numbers, due to easy access by car to the European Tour Destination, located just outside Girona and an hour from Barcelona.

PGA Catalunya rounded off the year by placing 18th in a new Top 100 World Resorts ranking to continue its reign as Spain’s best golf resort, before the new €5 million Wellness Centre was crowned Best New Amenity in the Public Resort category of Golf Inc.’s 2022 Amenity of the Year distinction.

Plans for 2022 include consolidating the resort’s position as a unique wellness and golf destination by investing more than €11m on projects including:

15 new wellness suites to complement the Wellness Centre, opened in April 2021 a 50,000m2 naturalised lake with completion scheduled for 2023 at a cost of €8.4m a new El Bosc residential area, comprising apartments and villas, located at the foot of the lake on the 13th hole on the Stadium Course a further €1m investment to upgrade the 500-hectare resort’s golf amenities, including both courses, driving range and practice areas a full renovation and extension of the golf reception and retail shop

PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness CEO, David Plana, said: “We are fortunate to have a visionary proprietor whose Master Plan has outlined numerous phased developments across leisure, lifestyle, wellness and real estate since the very beginning. These have enabled us to constantly grow our facilities and appeal to a widening pool of potential customers, whose expectations have not only been met but, more importantly, exceeded.

“With 2022 potentially offering up some additional challenges, at PGA Catalunya, we very much look forward to an even brighter year and hope to welcome visitors from far and wide to share in the rich experience our world-renowned resort and Wellness Centre provide.”
