A 3D Printed Multi-Material Construction, High MOI design, with SIK Face Technology & COBRA Connect’s Data Tracking, Deliver An Industry First; Taking Putter Performance & Design To The Next Level
Carlsbad, Calif. (May 19, 2021) – COBRA Golf announced their first foray into the putter world in 2020, when they partnered with HP to become the first OEM to launch a commercial, 3D printed metal putter with the limited-edition KING SuperSport-35. Today, COBRA announced its official entry into the putter market with the KING 3D Printed Series – its first complete line of 3D Printed multi-material putters. The putters feature a 3D printed nylon lattice cartridge created using HP’s advanced Multi-Jet fusion printing technology. The 3D printed lattice structure optimizes the weight distribution within the putter chassis to deliver a high MOI design for enhanced stability and roll performance in three distinct models – The GrandSport-35 (OS Blade), SuperNova (OS Fang), and the Agera (OS Mallet).
The KING 3D Printed Putter Series is the result of a multi-year collaboration between COBRA and HP that began with the launch of the LE SuperSport-35 putter. Since then, COBRA engineers have worked with HP to transition from Metal Jet (metal 3D printing) to Multi-Jet (Nylon) 3D printing to capitalize on the weight-saving benefits of nylon(which is about half the mass of aluminum). The intricate 3D printed lattice cartridges cannot be produced using traditional manufacturing methods and are crucial to creating discretionary weight and creating the highest MOI possible in each putter model. In addition to optimizing weight, the lattice cartridge serves as a supporting structure to the body and damps vibrations and fine tunes sound. Each model features a steel chassis, a forged aluminum crown, tungsten weights, and a SIK Face Insert to deliver unmatched stability and roll consistency on every putt.
COBRA partnered with SIK Golf to employ their patented Descending Loft Technology (DLT), which features four descending lofts on the face to produce a consistent launch angle and roll for different putting styles and stroke consistencies. COBRA engineers utilized the SIK’s DLT to create COBRA’s version in a 6061 aluminum insertwhich gives the advantage of weight savings and soft, yet crisp feel at impact.
Using HP’s proprietary 3D Printing Technology combined with SIK Golf’s DLT has enabled COBRA to introduce a revolutionary putter line that changes the way putters are designed and advances performance in the putter category.
“We’re extremely excited launch our new family of 3D printed putters, continuing our partnership with HP, utilizing their Metal Jet Technology to innovate and transform the way golf equipment is manufactured through the use of 3D printing, an extremely effective process in the design and development of our new putter line,” said Jose, VP Marketing & Product Architecture, Cobra Golf. “We are extremely excited for golfers to try our new 3D printed putters, while each is unique, they all deliver advanced stability, forgiveness and roll performance that will make putting easier for golfers of all levels.”
The KING GrandSport-35 ($349): features an oversize blade shape and boasts an MOI comparable to other OS mallets on the market. A plumber neck design creates a 35-degree toe hang that is ideal for players with a slight arc to their putting stroke. A multi-material construction features a 268g steel chassis, 21g forged aluminum crown, and an intricate 3D printed nylon lattice cartridge. Nylon is roughly half the weight of aluminum and enables weight to be removed from the center of the clubhead and repositioned to the heel and toe areas for increased MOI and forgiveness. In addition, 30g of combined tungsten weights in the heel and toe enhances perimeter weighting for greater stability on off-center hits. For enhanced roll performance, an aluminum face insert features SIK’s DLT which utilizes four descending lofts (4°, 3°, 2°, 1°) to ensure the most consistent and accurate roll on every putt. An aluminum insert creates significant weight savings over a solid steel face while simultaneously providing excellent feel with ample feedback.
Other features include a Tri-Plane sole with center relief for added versatility and a single sightline for improved alignment. The GrandSport-35 is available in right and left hand in 34” and 35” lengths through stock (other lengths available through custom). The GrandSport-35 shape is also available in a 41” armlock model with an oversize Lamkin Armlock grip. An armlock configuration is suited for players who seek maximum consistency in their stroke and prefer to rest the grip and shaft against their lead forearm. The Armlock model features an aluminum SIK face insert with more loft than the standard GrandSport-35 (7°, 6°, 5°, 4°) to account for forward shaft lean during the stoke. Like the rest of COBRA’s KING products, the KING 3D printed Grandsport-35 putters are equipped with a lightweight polyurethane Lamkin Sinkfit CONNECT Grip with an embedded sensor that pairs with the Arccos Caddie app.
The KING SuperNova ($349) features an oversize fang design with a MOI over 5700 for extreme stability on off-center hits. The incredible stability is achieved using a 3D Printed multi-material construction with two 3D printed nylon lattice cartridges, a 291g steel chassis, 18g forged aluminum crown, and 42g of combined tungsten on the perimeter extremities. The two 3D printed lattice cartridges use a lightweight nylon material to optimize weight distribution within the chassis making the MOI of the SuperNova greater than other fang-style mallets on the market today. An aluminum SIK face insert features descending lofts of 4°, 3°, 2°, 1° to provide consistent roll and launch characteristics for every style of putting stroke. The KING SuperNova is equipped with a lightweight polyurethane Lamkin Sinkfit CONNECT Grip, and is available in right and left hand in 34”, and 35” lengths through stock (other lengths available through custom).
The KING Agera ($349) features an oversize mallet shape and an MOI over 7600, making it one of the most stable putters on the market today. The design features a 3D printed nylon cartridge, 261g steel chassis, 27g forged aluminum crown, and extreme tungsten weighting. The intricate 3D printed nylon lattice cartridge removes unnecessary mass from the center and allows it to be redistributed to the perimeter in the form of 53g of combined tungsten to increase MOI. Like the other putters in the KING 3D Printed Series, the Agera also features an aluminum face insert with SIK’s DLT with four descending lofts (4°, 3°, 2°, 1°) to provide optimal launch and roll consistency for all putting strokes. The KING Agera putter is equipped with a lightweight polyurethane Lamkin Sinkfit CONNECT Grip, and is available in right and left hand in 34”, 35”, and 37.5” (ONE Length) stock length (other lengths available through custom). A 41” Armlock model is also available, and comes with a special oversize Lamkin Sinkfit CONNECT grip for players who prefer to rest the grip and shaft against their lead forearm during the stroke. The SIK Face insert on the armlock model is designed with slightly higher descending lofts (7°, 6°, 5°, 4°) to account for forward shaft lean in an armlock setup.
Each putter in the KING 3D Printed Series is equipped with a COBRA CONNECT™ grip Powered by Arccos Caddie, the award-winning smart golf system that helps players of all skill levels make smarter, data-driven decisions. The grips feature electronically enabled embedded sensors that sync with the Arccos Caddie app on the user’s Smart device to provide in-depth putting data. With the purchase of a putter, users can unlock a 90-day free trial to the Arccos Caddie system, which utilizes Artificial Intelligence to make better on-course decisions for lower scores. Golfers who use Arccos Caddie typically improve, on average, 3.6 strokes on their handicap in the first year.
All putters will be available for pre-order today at cobragolf.com and key retailers and will ship June 4, 2021. For more information on KING 3D Printed putters visit, www.cobragolf.com.
