WILSON UNVEILS ITS NEW LINE OF D9 IRONS, DESIGNED USING ADVANCED COMPUTER MODELING
Wilson’s proprietary iterative design process compared hundreds of power hole
arrangements to optimize both distance and ball speeds
CHICAGO, January 22, 2021 – Wilson Sporting Goods officially launched the Wilson D9 irons for the 2021 season. Following on from the successful D7 irons the new irons were created using Wilson’s generative design process, which uses computer modeling to simulate hundreds of variations to optimize power hole size and configuration. As a result of this new design approach, D9 irons boast a trio of notable features, including:  Power Holes 2.0: Strategically positioned, urethane-filled Power Holes enable maximum face flex for improved speeds. The new Power Hole 2.0 arrangements increase deflection and allow more energy transfer to the ball, across the entire face. This means effortlessly higher ball speeds leading to greater distance.  Low Center Of Gravity: Wilson’s lowest-ever center of gravity in an iron increases launch angles and delivers a steeper angle of descent for increased green-side control.  Performance Iron Aesthetic: With straighter lines, a cleaner top line and ultra thin face, D9 irons combine the look of a player's iron with the benefits of super game improvement distance technology. “The D9 irons represents a technological advancement showcasing Wilson’s future approach to iron design and development,” said Jon Pergande, Manager of Wilson Golf Club Innovation. “This software uses over 100 processor cores of computing power to analyze the sequential versions of each club design we worked through before arriving on the final D9 line.” In player testing against some of the leading competitors in the golf industry, D9 irons consistantly performed better across all relevant metrics, including a 2mph advantage in ball speed and a full eight-yard difference in carry distance. These are among the longest irons Wilson has ever produced.”* The steel irons are outfitted with the lightweight 80 gram KBS Max Ultralite shafts , while the graphite iterations boast MRC Tensei shafts. D9 features the new softer Lamkin Crossline Genesis grips. The D9 irons will be available for sale on Wilson.com and in retailers starting on Tuesday, January 26 th . Retail price for the D9 irons is $649.99 Steel, and $749.99 Graphite.
