Gamified Entertainment for All Skill Levels Now Open in Johannesburg
(LONDON, England) – Inrange® Golf has been selected by Randpark Golf Club, home of the 2020 South African Open and Joburg Open, to upgrade the facility’s two-tier driving range with its industry-leading ball-tracking system that creates the ideal practice and entertainment environment for patrons.
Continuing its global expansion, Randpark is the first facility in South Africa to feature the Inrange® system. Owners sought a partner who would help create a boutique entertainment suite to draw players of all skill levels to its premium location. Now, visitors will be able to play engaging games or capture critical data during practice sessions from any of the club’s 40 bays, using the Inrange® App.
For a premium gaming experience, the range will also include select bays fitted with gallery touchscreen TVs and the company’s multiplayer-focused Inrange+ package.
“I think the family atmosphere at the range is crucial. This particular technology is going to be enjoyable for everybody from beginner to professional,” says Randpark CEO Francois Swart. “Having this kind of new technology modernizing the driving range as part of the Randpark brand just shows that we’re keeping up with the trends.”
The Inrange® system consists of radar sensors placed in and around a driving range that create a series of interlocking radar fields. Once calibrated, they can determine the origin of each ball (which bay it was hit from), and track its entire flight, no matter how long or short, in real time. The resulting data is relayed either to an in-bay touchscreen or via the cloud to the Inrange® app on the player’s mobile device.
Easily covering a range of 100 bays or more, the sensors can track dozens of balls hit simultaneously, each from a different origin, and provide detailed data on speed, trajectory, path, landing point and more, to within a yard. Unlike competitor’s systems, they are impervious to all ambient conditions such as darkness, rain, mist and audible noise.
“Randpark is a very well-known and respected golf club in South Africa, and as a company’s founded in Johannesburg, we couldn’t be more thrilled to part of their wonderful facility,” said Nick Longley, Co-Founder of Inrange®. “The beauty of our system is that it not only serves avid players looking to hone their skills, but is an incredible gateway to golf for novice players from all backgrounds, as we remove the anxiety associated with playing on the course.”
Inrange® was founded by a group of highly respected South African engineers who used their expertise in the world of radar and radio telescopes to develop the most advanced, accurate and reliable tracking system in the world.
Beyond its advanced hardware, the company is focused on providing the best user experience possible through its interactive app and in-bay displays. The goal when developing the system was to provide golf’s newcomers an experience that would leave them hungry for more, while giving serious players a focused way to improve their handicap with every session. This is achieved through a variety of fun games enjoyable for all skill levels.
Beyond being a source of entertainment and practice for golfers, Inrange® allows facilities to capture a new secondary revenue stream, as patrons naturally want to spend more time at the facility, order more food and beverages and return often with friends. With quick installation and continuous customer service, Inrange® works closely with properties of all shapes and sizes to provide a custom-tailored solution for specific needs and budgets.
The company offers a variety of unique ways for facilities and customers to experience the system. A free-to-download app available through the App Store and Google Play lets users track data and play games on their smartphones at Inrange® facilities either solo or with others. Inrange+ is the ultimate multiplayer experience, where bays are equipped with display monitors and seating, ideal for challenging friends and enjoying a fun day at the range.

About Inrange® Golf
The foundations for Inrange® began in the 90’s, when the engineers who would go on to create the company developed FEKO, a computational electromagnetics code for high-frequency engineering applications (such as radar) that remains a global industry standard, used by everyone from BMW to Boeing to NASA. Over the past two decades they have focused on designing antennas and building ultra-sensitive radio receivers for radio astronomy, culminating in the completion of MeerKAT, the most sensitive radio telescope of its kind in the world. Following a passion for golf and sports in general, the team felt that the driving range experience could be much more than what it was and in 2015 they begin initial work on Inrange®. Today, the company’s solutions are featured in ranges around the world, including some of the most popular destinations in London and the famed David Leadbetter Academy outside of Orlando, FL.
