Decorated Destinations BOYNE Golf and Inn at Bay Harbor Recognized by GOLF Readers and Editors
Petoskey, MI – BOYNE Resorts, the largest family-owned golf and ski company in North America, has had two of its premier properties, the Inn at Bay Harbor and BOYNE Golf, awarded the distinguished “2019 Top 100 Resorts in North America” honor by GOLF Magazine.
GOLF‘s first-ever ranking of the Top 100 Resorts appears in the October 2019 edition of the print magazine and online at GOLF.com. Under the expert guidance of industry veterans, travel writers, GOLF.com readers, and GOLF’s Top 100 panelists and editorial teams, resorts were rated on five key variables: golf experience, accommodations, service, food, and ambience, then placed into four experience categories: Luxury, Buddies, General Excellence and Families.
The Inn at Bay Harbor was selected among the Luxury resorts, while BOYNE Golf was honored in the Buddies category. Both were listed as also being desirable for Families.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by GOLF Magazine in both the Luxury and Buddies categories,” Bernie Friedrich, Boyne Resort’s Senior Vice President of Golf Operations said. “We take pride in the quality and quantity of BOYNE’s great golf courses, along with the diversity of world-class experiences guests find at our three resorts and ten golf courses. This recognition further solidifies BOYNE as one of the top golf destination experiences anywhere in the country.”
The scenic Inn at Bay Harbor and Bay Harbor Golf Club, located along a five-mile stretch of Lake Michigan is a perfect fit for the Luxury category. The shoreline destination, designed in homage to the grand hotels of the late 19th century, features 111 newly renovated guest rooms including one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, as well as 22 Lakeside Cottages, 13 Crooked Tree Cottages, world-class spa amenities, and a variety of dining options and meeting spaces. Named a “Top Resort” and “Top Spa” by readers of Conde Nast Traveler, the Inn at Bay Harbor has been a must-experience destination since opening in 1998. It became a member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection Hotels in 2016.
Complementing the beautiful Inn at Bay Harbor are 45 scenic golf holes overlooking Lake Michigan. Bay Harbor Golf Club features 27 holes designed by Arthur Hills, which plays as three different course combinations. The Links/Quarry, Quarry/Preserve, and Preserve/Links combinations meander along the bluffs of Lake Michigan, trek through a rugged old limestone quarry and wander through beautiful northern Michigan hardwoods. Crooked Tree Golf Club is perched on bluffs high above Bay Harbor. The course was sculpted through century-old hardwoods and the back nine opens to breathtaking views of Little Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan.
BOYNE Golf was also selected among the Buddies category because of the quality and quantity of great golf that can be found among its three resort destinations. In addition to Bay Harbor Golf Club, Boyne Highlands features 72 holes of golf highlighted by The Heather (2019 National Golf Course Owners Association Course of the Year), which was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., while the Arthur Hills course was crafted by Arthur Hills. In addition, the resort features the Donald Ross Memorial, a rendition of the legendary architect’s great holes from around the country, and the classic The Moor course. Located 30 minutes south of Boyne Highlands, Boyne Mountain features 36 holes of fun golf with The Monument and The Alpine courses. Both courses begin at the top of the mountain and play down to Deer Lake, providing scenic views of northern Michigan.
BOYNE Golf is the perfect buddy trip destination for golfers who like to play as many holes as they can during northern Michigan’s long summer daylight hours. BOYNE GOLF’s unlimited golf packages start at just $153 per day.
Beyond the world-class golf, Boyne Resorts’ Michigan properties are centered in the heart of one of America’s most beautiful vacation spots. The scenic Lake Michigan beach towns of Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, and Petoskey are minutes away, and a side trip to Mackinac Island is easily within reach. Guests can enjoy award-winning spas, waterfront dining, sandy beaches, water sports, gaming, microbreweries, wineries, hiking, biking, tennis, zip-lining, shopping and more, topped off by those spectacular northern Michigan sunsets.
