WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — (August 5, 2019): Former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge, who served as the first United States Secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush, will serve as the Honorary Chairman for A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, the annual PGA TOUR stop at The Greenbrier resort.
Ridge, who was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, earning several combat decorations for his service in the Vietnam War, will support A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier’s mission of “Serving those who serve us,” and will be involved in various events throughout tournament week, September 9-15, 2019.
“I am a huge believer in the lessons that golf teaches all of us and a big supporter of the PGA TOUR,” said Ridge. “I am also proud to be a part of A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier’s mission to honor the true heroes of our great nation, the men and women of the United States Military and our country’s First Responders, especially as we reflect on their incredible sacrifices on the anniversary of September 11, 2001.”
Ridge will host the Salute to Service Dinner on Tuesday, September 10, and then participate in the Official Wednesday Pro-Am on The Old White TPC Course on Wednesday, September 11, taking part in the September 11 Remembrance Ceremony on the course that morning. Ridge will also play a role in a unique and memorable awards ceremony on Sunday, September 15, at the conclusion of A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.
“My top priority from the time I took over as Executive Tournament Director was focusing on the tournament’s mission of honoring our country’s heroes,” said Executive Tournament Director Robert Harris. “Having Governor Ridge’s support with that initiative is a tremendous honor, and we’re thrilled to have him as a special part of our tournament team.”
Proceeds from A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier will help support Army Emergency Relief, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and the First Responders Children’s Foundation, as well as other military charities.
