2013 PGA Championship Opening Round Delivers Significant Growth Across Platforms
TNT’s Exclusive First Round Coverage Up 83% vs. 2012
Live Streaming via PGA Championship LIVE Up 106%
TNT’s exclusive live first round coverage of the 2013 PGA Championship from the Oak Hill Country Club East Course in Rochester, N.Y., delivered a 1.1 overnight rating, up 83% compared with a 0.6 overnight rating for the opening round of the Championship in 2012. Thursday’s telecast registered the highest rating for the first round of the PGA Championship since 2010 (1.3 rating), according to Nielsen.
The telecast peaked with a 1.3 rating from 6:45-7 p.m. and the top five metered markets for the entire seven hours of coverage were Charlotte (2.1), Las Vegas (2.1), Norfolk (2.0), Buffalo (1.9) and Knoxville (1.7).
PGA.com, managed by Turner Sports, and its Sports Emmy Award-winning PGA Championship LIVE also garnered significant audience increases across digital platforms. Live streaming across platforms (broadband and mobile) was up 106% over last year’s comparable opening round coverage. Additionally, live streaming hours across platforms were up 93% compared with 2012.
TNT’s exclusive live coverage of the 2013 PGA Championship continues today, Friday, Aug. 9, from 1-7 p.m., along with live in-progress coverage of the event on PGA.com.
