IRVINE, CA – January 22, 2013 – FOURTEEN GOLF, a global leader in wedge and iron design with over 48 professional tour victories, announced today that the PGA Tour proven prototype wedge, now named the RM-12 Wedge, will be showcased and available for demo at the upcoming 2013 PGA Demo and PGA Merchandise Show.
According to FOURTEEN GOLF COO Marcy Kamoda, “The RM-12 Wedge was put into play on the PGA Tour as a prototype. The combination of the expanded grooves with reverse taper head design helped our staff player Arjun Atwal chip his way to the lead at the McGladrey Classic and shoot his personal best of the season – a 63.”
FOURTEEN GOLF knows the importance of the short game. The company has garnered a reputation throughout the world as being the preeminent wedge designer and the new RM-12 Wedge verifies it. This tour inspired, high performance wedge features the same large trapezoidal grooves as its predecessor, the RM 11-Wedge. These expanded grooves impart exceptional spin and rotational speed as the RM acronym implies – “Revolution per Minute.”
These uniquely shaped trapezoidal grooves have been enlarged by 15% as compared to other FOURTEEN GOLF wedges. This increase in overall groove volume enhances spin retention particularly on partial shots. In addition, these high quality grooves perform well in both dry and wet conditions.
“Larger grooves translate to maximum spin with exceptional control and the mirror face milling provides consistency, precision and tighter tolerances,” added Kamoda.
The RM-12 Wedge and its sole design differ greatly from the original RM-11 Wedge. Tour players like to create different shots using the same wedge so the engineers rounded the toe and heel area on the H-Sole available on the 48-degree to 58-degree models and actually removed the back portion of the sole. These modifications allow golfers to open and close the face, promoting a variety of shots.
For the 60-degree RM-12 Wedge, the design team implemented a T-Sole, also known as a Twin Sole. A distinct ridge in the middle portion of the sole allows the club to get through any type of lie easily as the leading edge is able to slide under the club effortlessly. Additionally, when the club face is open, the back portion of the sole encourages the ball to pop up with the perfect amount of spin.
The leading edge on the RM-12 Wedge appears relatively straight, but it is slightly rounded. This modest curve was implemented for visual purposes. Golfers can see how to get under the ball or chip it easily. FOURTEEN GOLF used a forged nickel chrome molybdenum bronze on the RM-12 head because of its durability and resistance to wear. This highly specialized material allows the high quality, high performance trapezoidal grooves to stay in perfect condition which ensures optimum performance.
Touring Professionals appreciated the company’s original “reverse taper design” so the engineers used it as a platform but increased the weight distribution on the upper blade to create a “reverse muscle design.” In effect, the weight is perfectly proportioned on the blade and club head which creates stability through impact. Now golfers have better control from any lie. No more missing greens.
“We are very encouraged with the initial seeding of the new RM-12 Wedges. Not only were they used for a Top-5 finish and multiple Top-10 finishes but were in more staff bags at the Frys.com event than we estimated,” added Kamoda.
The RM-12 Wedge not only is a high performance, tour inspired wedge but it is aesthetically stunning. The combination of its curves, classic styling and nickel chrome non-plated half matte finish make it one of the most beautiful wedges on the market. This special finish also prevents glare or distractions from the sun.
